Skills

Identifying your skills and abilities can help you find occupations in which you may be successful.

The ASVAB consists of eight short tests that help you identify your skills in a variety of areas. After taking the ASVAB, you will receive three Career Exploration Scores. These scores tell you your current strengths in verbal, math, and science and technical skills.

The ASVAB scores allow you to compare your test performance with that of other students at your grade level.

If you are interested in taking the ASVAB, talk to your counselor to find out about ASVAB testing at your school. If the ASVAB is not offered at your school, contact an Education Services Specialist by calling 1-800-323-0513 to find the nearest test location.

Once you have identified your skills and abilities, you may want to strengthen them. The skills and abilities that you have now are just a snapshot in time. If an occupation that you are interested in requires additional skills to be successful, you can always improve your skills and abilities. You can use Career Planning Tools to help you further develop your skills and prepare you for success.
